As many residents and workers know our Woodside Library has seen the usable public area reduced by up to 60% as a result of storm damage to the beautiful ornate dome installed in the original construction of 1905. Your Community Council has pressed continuously for repair works to be authorized and at last the project has been approved.
At a meeting of the City Administration Committee on 16th November the replacement of the dome was approved as part of the £10 million Community Asset budget for 2017 – 2018. In total £815,000 is to be spent on our building to re-instate it to what it was as the fabulous original Carnegie Library of 1905.
There are some approvals such as listed building consent to be obtained but it is hoped that the project will commence early next year and be completed in time for an exhibition of the finished work at Doors Open Day in September 2018.
