The Dutch barge MV John Hume arrived in Woodside on Monday 23rd March to be moored permanently at Spiers Wharf. The 114 year old vessel has undergone a year long complete restoration and is the first tall masted ship to visit Woodside in over 100 years. It is named after Professor John Hume of Strathclyde University who has championed the regeneration of Scotland’s canals.
The ship’s interior has been converted into a luxurious holiday home, and it will be added as a Glasgow City Centre location to Scottish Canals’ portfolio of holiday rentals along the Forth and Clyde Canal. There are already floating homes available for rent at the Kelpies and in Edinburgh City Centre.
The ship may be viewed at the canalside via Corn Street or Sawmillfield Street, and more information about its arrival and history can be obtained at the Scottish Canals website here.
