Long waits for service at our local St Georges Post Office in Maryhill Road are common experiences for many Woodside residents and businesses. This has happened because two staff left recently and the postmaster Mr Kebal Choham has been working alone twelve hours each day to deal with all customers. Now the Post Office plans to introduce new arrangements to improve this important local facility.
St Georges Post Office is to move from its present location at 136 Maryhill Road to inside the existing Spar supermarket at 98 Maryhill Road. New dedicated separate counters are planned to be manned by at least three fully trained staff with opening hours extended from those operating now. A public consultation is planned by Royal Mail with implementation of the changes intended for November this year or earlier if possible.
Sadly Mr Choham who has worked in Maryhill Road for 36 years will not be moving to the new St Georges Post Office. He intends to move back to Berkshire to live with his family there.
