Sadly the problems of the pool at our fabulous Victorian North Woodside Liesure Centre will not be easily or quickly resolved. Glasgow Life has discovered that the mass concrete base of the pool has cracked in several places. Repairs made during the last major refurbishment in the late 1980’s appear to have failed.
After much consultation a course of action has been specified which will provide a lasting solution and which will enhance the flexibility and scope of pool use. The final details of these specifications have been agreed and tender documents will be presented to City Building in May for costing. The solution utilises the existing pool floor over which a new reinforced concrete base will be laid. A new membrane will be installed to prevent propogation of the existing cracks through the new material, and a waterproof screed will then be applied and the pool walls fully retiled.
During these works various enhancements will be included to bring the pool into line with current standards including additional sump outlets and replacement inlet diffusers. Once complete the floor profile from shallow to deep will vary from 0.9 metres to 1.5 metres at the deep end. These changes will give added flexibility and allow for larger swimming lesson groups and for aquarobics and other activities.
