Work on the reinstatement of the fire damaged tenement property at the corner of Clarendon Street and Maryhill Road is on schedule and should be complete by the end of the year.

The fire in January 2004 caused the tragic death of 33-year old Gillian Purvis, and 50 families had to be evacuated.

The project which is managed by CRGP architects will cost £2.5 million and comprises the complete reinstatement of 15 flats and 5 commercial units.

Punch Taverns, the owners of the former Clarendon Bar, have decided to change the name of the public house and intend to target the business lunch and executive market.

Both the new public house, name yet to be decided, and the Cafe du Sud restaurant next door should be back in business by January 2006.
