In a colourful but cold ceremony on Tuesday 6th December 2011, our community switched on our festive lights for the fourth successful year. Due to weather and health and safety, both St. Joseph’s Primary and Cowcaddens Day Nursery cancelled so there was no carols sung by the children. However, children who attended sang together and individually. Then after an excited countdown the festive lights at St Georges Cross were switched on by Bailie Hanzala Malik and local MSP Sandra White.
Short speeches were made by Sandra White MSP, Bailie Hanzala Malik and Woodside Community Council Chairman Alan Lee thanking all involved in the festive lights for our neighbourhood, and to all who helped in the organisation of the countdown and switch-on ceremony. Alan also conveyed Debi Edward’s apologies for her absence due to work commitments.
Surprise visit by Santa during refreshments in Findlay Memorial Church where he handed out selection packs to children and adults.
It was an enjoyable day!
