Lansdowne Church Grant Refused

The Heritage Lottery Fund has advised the Four Acres Charitable Trust (FACT) that their recent application for a £900,000 grant for work to save the A-listed Lansdowne Church of Scotland is to be refused. It appears that the project meets all the criteria required by the Scotland Committee for grant aid, but at this time only £1.5 million is available north of the Border for projects needing £4.5 million.

Paradoxically because the application has no flaws it is not suitable for re-submission in an altered form, and must wait till more funds are available. These will probably be limited by the need to support the London Olympics in 2012.

FACT have also approached Historic Scotland and Glasgow City Council for financial assistance and confirm that each application is not dependent on the success or failure of grant requests at other bodies.
