In an exhibition in the Up on the Hill Cafe on 11th October, detailed plans and visualizations of the intended Speirs Locks Student Campus were revealed. The proposals show a twelve storey tower and a five storey block adjacent to the Forth and Clyde Canal to house 230 students with common and pastoral areas. Many of the plans which were on display can be viewed online at speirslocksstudentcampus.com.
The development would be ideally situated to house students of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, whose Speirs Wharf workshops are immediately adjacent, and students from the Glasgow School of Art and Glasgow Caledonian University, whose city centre premises are only a ten minute walk away. The developers hope to lodge a formal Planning Application in December this year, with construction of the £10million project completed by the middle of 2015.
Woodside residents and businesses who wish to comment on the plans may do so during the formal consultation period after submission of the Planning Application, either to your Community Council here or directly to Glasgow City Council.
