Roads and parking

The public meeting held on 20th February in Stevenson Memorial Church in Belmont Street attracted an attendance of 300 concerned residents and business people, the majority of whom considered the recently introduced parking regime to be a failure.

The revelation that evening of over £400,000 in west end parking fines in only six months caused outcry and made front page news the following day.

Great Western RoadHead of Roads for Glasgow Mr George Gillespie promised the audience much improved consultation during the review of the scheme.

He will now present a report to the Roads and Lighting Committee on 4th May and our local Metered Parking Action Group are encouraging a large public attendance at that meeting.

In the meantime the long awaited peak hour bus corridor in Great Western Road is being enforced in three stages beginning at St Georges Cross in March and ending at Byres Road in May.
Some associated work such as repositioning of gas mains and bus stops has been postponed until later this year.
