Parking controversy continues

After a public meeting in June and an energetic poster and e-mail campaign the proposed parking control fees were much reduced and in the Napiershall zone of our community were abandoned completely.

As predicted however having uncontrolled parking in one zone while introducing controls in the eight surrounding zones has meant parking chaos for residents in Lansdowne, North Woodside, Burnbank, and neighbouring roads.

Formerly quiet streets are now beseiged every morning by commuters seeking free parking, leaving both residents and businesses unhappy with the present situation. At the opposite end of our community we have commercial and industrial estates where no-one lives whose streets are zoned for residents parking.

Your Community Council opposed the introduction of parking controls to all zones without proper consultation and we know our views counted when the City Council made its decision.

The Metered Parking Group who organised resistance to the controls has asked Steven Purcell the new Council leader for a meeting. The Group has drawn up an alternative set of proposals which it is hoped address the present chaos for both residents and businesses. Interested readers can follow progress on their website www.meteredparking.org.uk

The controls were due for review by Roads officials six months after their introduction in the summer and your Community Council has requested proper consultation this time before any changes.
